PRECEDENT PHENOMENA IN THE UNITED STATES PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES OF 2004

O. Vorozhtova

Аннотация

Linguistic analysis of precedent phenomena used by opposing candidates in the US presidential debates of 2004 revealed that the candidates appeal to similar values, images, historical characters and etc. to create a positive image of themselves and to discredit the opponent. It is the context and the stressed connotations of the precedent phenomena that make the difference.
